The Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, received a youth delegation from Beirut, headed by lawyer Hassan Afif Kashli, who emphasized that the Dar al-Fatwa is a national and Islamic reference and a home for all Lebanese. He pointed out that the wise stance taken by the Grand Mufti in calling for participation in the parliamentary elections resonated and had an impact throughout Lebanon. He stressed that the majority of the people of Beirut are against civil marriage, which contradicts the provisions of the Lebanese Constitution that granted the right of legislation to each sect regarding its personal status matters and its religious and sectarian courts as stated in Article Nine. This project contradicts God’s law and blatantly violates the provisions of the Lebanese Constitution, which everyone should adhere to. He called on the newly elected deputies to address the economic, living, and social crises before discussing the issue of civil marriage.
